We had our planned kindergarten session at Cockle Bay Beach. As many children and their families met at the beach, this was a good opportunity to get to know each other. We explored the beach, finding different creatures, feathers, shells and things. We carefully lifted rocks to look at crabs and shrimps. Some children made sand castles, and had fun in the water. We have shared with the children a Maori Legend that relates to the big old Pohutukawa tree at the beach. Children enjoyed climbing all over this wonderful old tree. Back at kindergarten children have continued to extend their beach experience through dramatic play, art and craft and finding out more about beach life. It was such a successful excursion, we can't wait for the next one.
