| There is always a lot of interest in Fire Trucks and fighting fires. So when we were given some big boxes it seemed like a great idea to make our own fire trucks. The children painted the boxes red, then added wheels, lights and ladders. They looked fantastic and were a great addition to the 'fire' play. Everyone enjoyed dressing up, using the hoses to squirt water and driving the fire trucks. The interest in Fire fighters continued, so we asked one of our Dads, who is a Fire Fighter at the Howick Station, if they could bring a fire truck to visit us at Kindergarten, and talk about fire safety. The next week, there was huge excitement when the Fire Fighters arrived. Some mums and dads came along too. James talked about fire safety, smoke alarms and a safe meeting place at the letterbox. Then we all sang the fire safety song, "Get Out, Stay, Out, Well Done!" John showed us the special fire-proof clothing and helmet with the shiny reflectors. The children also crawled under a blanket, showing how to stay under the smoke level, to get out of the house. Then it was time to look inside the Fire Truck, some children sat in the drivers seat, it was amazing! Thank you to all the wonderful Fire Fighters for visiting us and giving us lots to talk about. |
